MADISON, Wis. (WTAQ) - It’s “Bike to Work Week.” And the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin hopes to get more two-wheelers to commute by holding a contest for businesses.
The ones that bike the most miles, and have the highest percentage of employees cycling to work will get prizes. About 200 companies have signed up. Most are in Milwaukee and Madison, but others are from Stevens Point and Sturgeon Bay.
The week kicked off Sunday with the 30th annual Miller Lite Ride for the Arts in Milwaukee. Organizers expected to raise $300,000 for local arts groups.
The U.S. Census Bureau says almost 3,000 employees in Milwaukee ride bicycles to their jobs. That’s just over 1 percent of all commuters. About 4 percent of Madison’s workers bike to and from work daily.
