(Lansing, MI) -- A beef herd in Alpena County has tested positive for bovine Tuberculosis. The Michigan Department of Agriculture said the disease was found during routine surveillance testing. MDA will hold an informational meeting for Alpena County producers on the bovine TB discovery on June 21st in Alpena. Since efforts to eradicate bovine TB in Michigan, all cattle in the state have been tested. Forty-nine herds and four privately owned cervid operations have tested positive since 1998 in the northern part of the Lower Peninsula. MDA said the farms have been quarantined and no cattle are leaving except to go to slaughter.
