MINNEAPOLIS, MI (WKZO) -- It was a long day for Tigers starter Brad Penny who gave up 7 runs on 8 hits in 5 innings as the Tigers fell 11-4 to the Minnesota Twins Sunday afternoon. The loss, coupled with an Indians loss and a Chicago White Sox win positions the Tigers 6 games up on the now second place White Sox.
The Tigers appeared to stabilize the game while trailing 2-0 in the 2nd inning. Down by 2 Ramon Santiago singled in Victor Martinez and Alex Avila before the Twins began taking over for good in the 3rd inning. Justin Morneau and Luke Hughes homered in the 3rd and 4th innings to give the Twins a 6-2 lead they wouldn't look back from.
The win improves the Twins to 56-77 on the season while the Tigers fell to 73-60. Up next the Tigers open a 4-game-series with the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park. First pitch is set for 7:05pm Monday with coverage of the game beginning at 6:40 on AM 590 WKZO.
