WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Scott Stanzel, a former spokesman for President George W. Bush, said on Tuesday he is considering a run for a Senate seat in Washington state.
Stanzel, a Republican, would challenge Democratic incumbent Senator Maria Cantwell should he decide to run in 2012.
He was a deputy press secretary for the Bush White House and now runs a communications firm in Seattle.
Stanzel, 38, said he was flattered that "individuals I worked with to defeat the disastrous state income tax proposal last year believe that I could provide a positive voice for Washington in the U.S. Senate."
After he marries his fiancee in September, "I'll work to grow my business and will consider this opportunity to be a constructive voice for Washington," said Stanzel.
