Before this year, no song had managed to sell five million copies in a single year. This year, two have done it: Gotye 's "Somebody That I Used to Know" featuring Kimbra, and fun. 's "We Are Young.”
Gotye scores the best-selling song of 2012, with “Somebody That I Used to Know" selling 5.5 million copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan. It's currently the 15th best-selling digital song of all time. Meanwhile, fun.’s "We Are Young,” has sold 5.09 million copies so far.
Gotye’s third studio album, which features “Somebody That I Used to Know,” is also selling well. Making Mirrors , which was released in the U.S. in December 2011, is the top-selling rock album of this year in the U.S. so far at #11 on the overall top 20 list. It's sold 538,000 copies, according to Nielsen Soundscan.
