LANSING, Mich (WLMI) There is not much hope for a good corn or soybean crop in much of the state this year. The drought has taken a massive toll on the field crops, with 56-percent of the corn rated in poor to very poor condition in the latest U.S. Department of Agriculture crop progress report. Fifty-percent of soybeans are also in poor to very poor condition. The looming field crop disaster follows a spring where nearly all of the state's fruit crops except blueberries and strawberries were destroyed by several freezes in April.
