MASON COUNTY (WKZO) -- The Ludington Judge in the Baby Kate abduction case has given Sean Phillips 10 to 15 years, which is more than a person with his criminal background would normally receive for such a crime, under sentencing guidelines. Phillips drove off with the baby on the day he was to undergo a paternity test, angry that he might have to pay child support. The little girl has not been seen in the year since. April Lange, Baby Kate’s Grandmother says they still need to know where the baby is. Monday after the sentencing, Ludington Police Chief Mark Barnett announced they planned to transition to a homicide investigation, in an attempt to see to it that Phillips, who is their prime suspect, is punished for it. They are convinced the baby is dead, and that Phillips knows where she is. Phillips Attorney says they plan to appeal.
