LANSING, Mich (WLMI) A U.S. Supreme Court decision affects the sentencing of juvenile offenders in Michigan—including Charles Lewis, Junior of Lansing. Currently the state's law requires judges to sentence children as young as 14-years-old to life in prison without parole if they are convicted of first degree murder. Yesterday's Supreme Court decision says that judges may no longer sentence juveniles to life in prison without parole. Lewis, Junior was convicted of 1st degree murder for a crime he committed at age 13.
