MUSKEGON COUNTY (WKZO) -- The long extended Fourth of July holiday period had just barely gotten started when there was already a drowning death.
An 18-year-old trying to swim the channel between Duck Lake and Lake Michigan in Muskegon County Friday evening was crossing with a 10-year-old when he had trouble breathing and slipped under the surface.
The younger boy completed the crossing and summoned help. It took a rescue team using sonar two hours to find the body, at about 9:30 last evening. The victims name is being withheld until family members are notified.
