DAYTON, OH (WLMI) – Kenny Wilson homered, Marcus Walden fired six scoreless innings and the Lansing Lugnuts (26-11) turned a triple play in a 4-2 win over the Dayton Dragons (14-24) on Monday night at Fifth Third Field.
The Lugnuts have won the first three games in the four-game series and are 6-0 at Dayton this year.
With Lansing leading 4-0 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Dayton's Juan Perez reached on an error and Brandon Dailey drew a walk. With both runners moving, Ryan Wright popped up a bunt attempt. Catcher Carlos Perez plucked the ball out of the air for the first out, fired to second baseman Jon Berti to double off Perez, and the relay throw to first baseman K.C. Hobson completed the triple killing.
The highlight completed a fine outing for Lugnuts starter Walden (Win, 3-1), who limited Dayton to just two hits and two walks while striking out two.
Dayton starter Radhames Quezada (Loss, 1-4) put his team in an immediate hole, walking leadoff hitter Berti before serving up Wilson's third home run of the season, putting the Lugnuts ahead 2-0.
Berti added an RBI double three innings later, and a run-scoring wild pitch gave the Lugs their fourth run in the sixth.
The Dragons tallied a pair of runs against reliever Aleson Escalante in the seventh to cut the lead in half.
Brandon Berl fired a scoreless eighth, pitching around a two-out single, yielding to Midwest League saves leader Ajay Meyer (Save, 13) for a scoreless ninth.
