LANSING, Mich (WLMI) The Lansing Lugnuts (27-12) had their four-game winning streak come to an end when Lee Orr mashed a three-run homer in the top of the ninth to give the Fort Wayne TinCaps (19-21) a 5-3 victory on Wednesday night at Cooley Law School Stadium.
The Lugnuts led 3-2 in the top of the ninth, but Ajay Meyer (Loss, 1-1) walked a pair sandwiched between two strikeouts before Orr’s three-run long ball gave the TinCaps the victory.
It is Meyer’s third blown save of the year.
The TinCaps’ bullpen allowed just one run over a combined four innings. Luis De La Cruz (Win, 2-3) did not allow a hit nor a run in his one inning of work before Matt Stites (Save, 4) locked down the TinCaps’ ninth inning.
Lansing was in the lead entering the ninth after recording single tallies in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Andy Burns broke a 0-for-15 skid with an RBI double in the fourth and the go-ahead home run in the sixth, his team-leading sixth four-bagger of the season.
Kevin Pillar went 2-for-3 to snap a 0-for-11 slide with two doubles in the middle three innings and a run scored.
K.C. Hobson snuck an RBI single up the middle in the fifth as part of a 1-for-3 day with a walk.
Lugnuts starter Jesse Hernandez struggled a bit in the first three innings but settled down and allowed just five hits, two runs and two walks over seven innings with one strikeout.
Matt Wisler started for the TinCaps and retired the first 10 Lugnuts he faced before he surrendered five hits and two runs in the fourth and fifth innings. Wisler left with the game tied at two after five innings, two walks and four strikes outs.
The Lansing Lugnuts continue their three-game homestand against the TinCaps with a Labatt Blue Light Thirsty Thursday at 7:05 p.m. on Jackson Field. Top prospect Noah Syndergaard (3-0, 2.19) starts for the Lugs opposite TinCaps right-hander Cody Hebner (5-1, 2.70).
