LANSING, Mich (WLMI) The Board of Water and Light is getting behind Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero’s plan for the utility to increase payments to the city from four-percent to five-percent. The BWL gives the city a portion of its revenues instead of paying taxes. Several City Council members were seeking an addition half-percent so the city could rehire police and firefighters. On Monday, council approved the 2013 budget—that half-percent—or 1.5 million dollars—was included. Bernero is likely to veto a portion of the spending plan.
