LANSING, Mich (WLMI) An estimated 1.1-million Michigan residents are expected to travel during the Memorial Day weekend. Triple-A says that’s a slight increase over last year. Gas prices are still hovering around $3.74 a gallon, on average. Be reminded—there will be a beefed-up police presence all over the state this weekend—police are targeting the usual suspects: seatbelt violators and drunk OR aggressive drivers.
There will be fewer orange barrels greeting you on your trip this weekend. MDOT says it’s suspending about 70% of road construction projects this weekend to give motorists a break. Most work will resume on Tuesday morning.
