Cage the Elephant is currently in the studio finishing up work on their follow-up to 2011's Thank You Happy Birthday . Frontman Matt Shultz says that the upcoming release will feature a fair amount of musical experimentation.
"When we set out to make this record we had a few different vague ideas for what direction we wanted to move in musically, but as usual the end result turned out nothing like what we had originally envisioned," he notes in a statement. "There was an element of playfulness and swagger absent on our last record that unexpectedly began to surface. At the same time the songs had a more inner-directed and reflective sound.”
While a title and release date for the album has yet to be released, the band is expected to unveil more information about the record in the coming weeks.
